Large French Louis XVI period carved and painted trumeau mirror or looking glass. Flat molded cornice incorporating two projecting squared columns at each side; central panel with carved rosettes at each corner and applied decoration, including foliate swags; crossed bow, arrow, and trumpet; over a small rectangular mirror plate. 68" H x 48" W. 18th century.
CONDITION: CONDITION: Distressed surface with some remnants of old paint throughout. Scattered age splits and wear commensurate with age. Minor loss to cornice molding measuring 3/4" x 1 1/2". Scattered repaired holes along right edge with corresponding newer wood blocks, en verso. Old repair evident to lower portion, en verso. Mirror with scattered desilvering; likely an old replacement.
