Large oil on canvas European kitchen interior genre painting, likely Dutch or German school. A woman stands behind a table and displays a butchered animal while a man who holds a basket filled with vegetables enters at right. Fruits and meats including a large lobster rest on the table and additional meats hang to either side of the woman. A dog investigates an intrail that hangs from the tabletop while a cat waits nearby. Housed in a painted and giltwood frame. Canvas: 43 1/2 in. H x 68 in. W. Framed: 48 in. H x 70 1/2 in. W. 18th century or earlier.
CONDITION: Canvas has been relined. Extensive retouching to background and floor, plus localized areas of retouching throughout including to faces. See U/V photography. With stable craquelure throughout.
