1st item: East Tennessee lead glazed earthenware jar with incised line decoration to shoulder and midsection, attributed to the Cain pottery. 7" H. Mid-19th century. Provenance: Virginia Caldwell Collection, Historic Deery Inn, Blountville, Tennessee. 2nd item: East Tennessee earthenware jug attributed to the Cain pottery with sine wave incising around the upper shoulder, copper oxide and lead glazed body. Pulled handle. 8" H. Late 19th century. Note: a similar green glazed jar with a history from the Gaines family of Blountville and attributed to the Cain pottery was sold by Case in October 6, 2012, lot 137. CONDITION: 1st item: Scattered chips to rim, body and base. Glaze with some exfoliation and wrinkling typical of many glazed earthenware pieces from the Cain pottery. 2nd item: One area of glaze loss to lower body, possible firing flaw. Some abrasions to band of sine wave and diagonal left of handle.
