East Tennessee Federal inlaid chest of drawers with mahogany veneers and cherry primary, yellow pine secondary wood. Mahogany veneered molded top with line inlay around top edge, four graduated dovetailed and cockbeaded drawers, each drawer having string inlay with corner loop designs, inlaid shield escutcheons, the stiles with string inlaid "columns" and capitals having colored inlaid designs; serpentine apron with elaborate inlaid fan; flaring French feet. Attributed to Washington Co., TN (refer to Figure 271, p. 212 of The Art and Mystery of Tennessee Furniture for a chest with a similar inlaid columns). 38" H x 43" W x 21 1/2" D. Condition: Older refinish, replaced brasses, bruising to edges of case sides, minor stains to top, drawer sides with some buildup, front tips of feet with veneer patches; all feet blocks appears to be original; old replaced lower right inlaid capital.
