Edward Giobbi (American, b. 1926), TV Landscape No. 4, framed series of twelve mixed media Abstract Expressionist paintings in graphite and watercolor, signed lower right and dated 1967. Mounted to a beige mat and housed under glass in a plain square stained wood frame. Exhibition labels en verso for Waddell Gallery, New York City. Individual paintings: 8 in. W x 5 in. H. Frame: 31 in. W x 28 in. H. Biography: Edward Giobbi grew up in an Italian immigrant family in Connecticut. He studied at the Whitney School of Art, the Art Students League of New York and then the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze. Returning to America in 1954, he found himself artistically pressured by Abstract Expressionism, but sought to maintain the influences of Italian art in his work. In 1986 his friend Robert Motherwell declared to him that he was the only painter [Motherwell] knew who successfully combined the quattrocento with modern art. Giobbi recieved a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1972 and was artist in residence at Dartmouth College in 1973. (Source: Artist’s website).

CONDITION: Individual paintings in overall good condition with light toning, a few light creases. Some faint staining to lower right edge of mat. Some colored tiny debris trapped under mat.
