Blount County, Tennessee stoneware jug stamped, "D.L. Smith" on shoulder (David L. Smith, S is stamped backward). Sam Smith and Stephen Rogers reference David L. Smith working at both a Grindstaff pottery site and the Maryville pottery site in Volume 1 of "Tennessee Potteries, Pots, and Potters, 1790s-1950" (p. 89-92). 9 1/4" H. Late 19th century. Condition: Residual red paint on rim and handle, tight hairline at top of handle, tight hairline at rim extending to upper shoulder.
