Ornate Nashville, Tennessee retailed cream pitcher, Rococo Revival style repousse design with floral, foliate and scroll decoration, central cartouche monogrammed WMBE to MC, and acanthus overlaid S-scroll handle, atop four scrolled feet; marked on underside "Gowdy" (Thomas Gowdey, b. 1795, working Nashville, 1825-d. 1863). 6" H, 5.675 oz troy. Circa 1850. Note: the misspelling on Gowdy's name in this mark, and on other Gowdey pieces, suggests they were made elsewhere and retailed in Nashville. Provenance: Private Arkansas Collection. Condition: 1/2"L deep scratch to side underneath top terminus of handle, otherwise very good condition.
