Large English writing desk with brass straps, fittings, and handles. Lid raises to reveal a green leather writing surface, ink wells, and storage compartments with bone pulls. Sloped writing surface lifts for accessing additional storage compartments, including three (3) hidden drawers with bone pulls. An additional hidden drawer is accessible by removing a panel on the right ink well. Includes key. 21 1/2 in. L x  7 1/2 in. H x 10 1/2 in. D.  Late 19th century or earlier.

PROVENANCE: The estate of Dr. Ian M. Mathison, Murfreesboro TN and Big Rapids, MI.

CONDITION: Overall good condition. Some scratches to top and sides, consistent with age and use. Two (2) slight bends to brass straps across the top of box. Bottom of box has four (4) holes, as if the box was once attached to a base or stand. Leather is cracked at the box hinge. Right side interior storage compartment lid is cracked near the pull, but remains intact. Lacks key.
