Elgin Pocket Watch and pocket watch accessories belonging to George Washington Callahan (Knoxville, TN, 1862 – 1927). 1st item: Elgin National Watch Company 14K gold-filled pocket watch, open face, Grade 244, Model 7, 17 jewels, Serial no. 9082806. White porcelain dial with black Arabic numerals and a small seconds sub-dial located at the 6 o’clock position. Includes a photo of a female, possibly George Callahan’s wife Caroline. Circa 1901. 2nd – 5th items: Assorted grouping of mostly watch-related items, including a Victorian gold-filled mesh pocket watch strap or fob, a Victorian gold-filled watch chain with fob featuring a T-bar on one end, a gold-filled Intaglio locket fob with inlaid tiger’s eye stone to the back, and a hardstone watch fob charm featuring an obelisk to one side and a clover with the initials GWC for George Washington Callahan. The lot also includes a gold-filled ladder badge award for the daughter of G. W. Callahan, inscribed “Alberta Callahan for Attendance, Papa and Mama” and associated pin (ribbon attachment not present).
PROVENANCE: Irene Sullivan Estate, Oak Ridge, TN descendant of the Callahan family of Knoxville, TN.
CONDITION: Watch winds and is working at the time of inspection. Remaining items in good condition with evidence of wear.
