Elysee Maclet (French, 1881-1962) oil on board painting, “Le Moulin de la Galette.” The famous windmill Moulin de la Galette and its associated buildings in Paris’s Montmartre district stand before a cloudy sky. Signed lower right. Housed in a giltwood frame with linen liner, gilt fillet, and name/title plate. Findlay Galleries tag with number 22330 tacked to the frame. Sight: 17 in. H x 21 in. W. Framed: 23 1/2 in. H x 27 in. W. Biographical Note: French Post-Impressionist painter Élisée Maclet was born the son of a peasant gardener and was taught to paint by the sexton of his parish church. After arriving in Paris, he gained acclaim with his colorful city scenes and especially depictions of Paris’s historic Montmartre district. Maclet enjoyed acclaim during his lifetime but also suffered from a mental illness that took a toll on his career. He was honored with a retrospective in 1957 in Paris, shortly before his death.

CONDITION: Overall very good condition. Frame with negligible abrasions and gilt loss.
