Southwest Virginia dark green painted pie safe of vertical form. Rectangular top with simple stepped cornice over an ogee molding, above two long doors inset with four punched tins each. Case rests on Hepplewhite style tapered feet. Sides with two inset panels, three interior shelves, white painted backboards. Poplar throughout. Tins with concentric quarter fan design with central punched geometric basket/lantern form with flower type appendages. Tins retain traces of green paint. Found in Giles County, Virginia. 71 1/4? H x 41 1/4? W x 17 1/4? D. Mid 19th century. Condition: Overall very good condition retaining most of the original dark green paint, wear to paint commensurate with age and use. 20th century white paint to backboards, top, and interior.
