Two (2) unsigned oil on canvas atmospheric seascape paintings, after William Trost Richards (American, 1833-1905). 1st item: oil on canvas painting depicting a lighthouse in a turbulent sea, with crashing waves in the foreground and a distressed ship in the distance. After a known work by Richards, “Untitled, Rough Sea.” Sight: 9 1/2 in. H x 17 1/4 in. L. Framed: 12 in H. x 20 in L. 2nd item: Oil on canvas painting depicting a sailboat on choppy water, under a horizon and billowing clouds. After a similar work by Richards, “Rock Bound Coast” Sight: 9 1/2 in. H x 17 1/4 in. L. Framed: 12 in H. x 20 in L. Both late 19th/early 20th century.
CONDITION: Craquelure and scattered paint loss to both, including visible stretcher lines on canvas. Lighthouse painting has a patch of paint loss in the middle right cloud. Sailboat painting has an old nail head pierced through the bottom left.
