Likely manner of Francis Sydney Muschamp (United Kingdom, 1851-1929) oil on canvas painting depicting a young woman attired in a white Grecian-style gown and pink satin wrap, descending a set of stone garden stairs with a forest in the background. Spuriously signed and dated lower left “Sydney Muschamp M.R.A. 1860.” Unframed. 24″ H x 16″ W. Likely late 19th century.
CONDITION: Canvas has been lined. With scattered retouching to upper-and-center left, largest area under right arm, 2 1/2″ x 3/4″. Rubbing and minor losses to perimeter, largest 3/8″ x 1/4″, lower left, plus overall light grime and a few areas of very light craquelure.
