Five (5) assorted silver items from the estate of George Washington Callahan (1862-1927) including: a Dominik & Haff sterling silver goblet retailed by Hope Brothers (Knoxville, TN), inscribed “Alberta 1914,” after Alberta Callahan, youngest daughter of George W. Callahan and later Mrs. Joseph G. Sullivan, Knoxville, TN); a pair of Hope Brothers silver metal and mother of pearl opera glasses; a sterling silver eye glass case monogramed “GWC” for George W. Callahan, with maker’s mark “EPo” and “Sterling”; a carved ebony walking stick with clover and harp designs and sterling silver mounts, one marked “HWLd” for Henry Williamson Ltd, Birmingham England, and one engraved “G.W. Callahan 1913 CORK” (36 1/4 in. L); and a Cincinnatus / Queen City Silver Co. silverplate child’s cup with engine-turned floral decoration engraved “George,” after George Callahan Jr., infant son of G.W. Callahan who died in 1901. Ranging in size from 4 in. L to 36 1/2 in. L. 6.53 total weighable troy ounces.
PROVENANCE: Irene Sullivan Estate, Oak Ridge, TN descendant of the Callahan family of Knoxville, TN.
CONDITION: Goblet with dent to base, minor denting to eyeglass case. Cane with overall wear and a repaired break to handle.
