Large Chinese carved celadon and lilac jade sculpture of a recumbent Guanyin, resting her right arm upon a stack of books. Above her left arm is a child standing on one leg and holding a precious object. Both figures surrounded by halos and depicted amid trees, bamboo, clouds, and waves. Unsigned. Includes associated pierced, hardwood stand. Jade sculpture measures 17 1/8" W x 7 7/8" H x approx. 4 1/2" D (not including stand).
PROVENANCE: Collection of a Nashville Physician.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition with possible minute loss to tip of two bamboo stalks and minor surface residue to underside, small chip to corner of the sculpture base (near foot). Stand does not fit well with sculpture and is not fully stable.
