Lot 1166: Pr. E.C. Middleton & Co. Political Oleographs, Andrew Jackson & Henry Clay

Two (2) Elijah C. Middleton oval chromolithographic (oleographic) portraits including one depicting U.S. President Andrew Jackson (1767-1845) and Kentucky Senator Henry Clay (1777-1852), c. 1860s. Both stamped en verso "Warrented Oil Colors, Entered accordingly to Art of Congress, in the year 1863, by E.C. Middleton." Both housed in similar carved gilt and and gesso foliate frames. Sights: 16" H x 13" W. Frames: 21 3/4" H x 18 3/4" W.

CONDITION: Both portraits overall good condition and are housed under glass. Jackson's portrait with brown paper debris lower margin. Both frames with scattered wear and losses to gilt and gesso.
