Engraved tortoiseshell silver-mounted casket, likely Spanish colonial, comprised of a domed top with engraved silver mounts throughout, consisting of a lock and a hasp, a shaped handle on the lid, corner mounts and floral medallions, one on each side. Additional engraved decoration to the front and back depicting ovals and thistle. 7 1/4" H x 9 1/4" W x 4 1/4" D. 17th or 18th century.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Margaret Harold Roberts, Lookout Mountain, Georgia.
CONDITION: Significant sun fading to the exterior, especially to the top, front and back sides. Some losses to silver mounts, minor scattered loss/ wear to exterior tortoiseshell, losses to body rim, covered by the lid.
