Lot 1124: Don Powers Painting, Two Timucua Spear-Fishermen

Don Powers (Tennessee, 1950-2010) tempera on paper painting depicting two Native American Timucuan men spearfishing in a marsh. Signed and dated 1977, lower right. Housed under glass in a cove molded gilt wood framed with a linen mat. Sight: 23 3/8 in. H x 27 3/4 in. W. Framed: 32 3/4 in. H x 37 in. W. 20th century. Biographical Note: Born in Nashville, Don Powers attended Tennessee Tech and Lipscomb University before serving as Art Director at the Tennessee State Museum. Powers painted portraits for President Jimmy Carter and the Dalai Lama and of famous Tennesseans including Davy Crockett and President Andrew Jackson. He was adopted into the Shawnee Nation in 1975 in honor of his Native American-themed artwork.

PROVENANCE: Deaccessioned by the Hunter Museum of American Art.

CONDITION: Painting is in overall very good condition. Frame with minor scattered abrasions.
