Carlo Kappo (European, 20th c.) oil on canvas, bust-length portrait of a musketeer or cavalier who wears a wide-brimmed hat and looks directly at the viewer while he grips the handle of a sword with his left hand. Signed lower right and retains a Chicago Conservation Center label affixed to stretcher. Housed in a painted and giltwood frame. Sight: 31 1/2 in. H x 25 1/2 in. W. Framed: 40 1/2 in. H x 34 1/4 in. W.
CONDITION:
Overall very good condition. Professionally conserved by Chicago Conservation Center, 1992. Canvas has been lined and restretched. With scattered retouch throughout, especially to hair, hat, and to lower left corner. Largest area around repaired horizontal tear at lower left corner, approximately 6-inch x 4-inch.
