Charles Herbert Woodbury (American, 1864-1940) oil on canvas street scene landscape painting titled "Cape Ann Village" depicting a figure in cart, loaded with snow, traveling down a street lined with buildings; the mast of a tall ship is visible over the rooftops in the background. Signed "CH Woodbury" lower right and dated "Nov. '82" lower left. Exhibited, "Earth, Sea and Sky," an exhibit organized by the MIT museum which traveled throughout the US from 1988-1993. Label en verso lists museums participating in the tour, including Cheekwood, Nashville, Tennessee. Other labels en verso for Vose Galleries, Boston, with title "New England Town", and Smith Kramer Fine Art Services, Kansas City. Giltwood molded frame with incised edge and corner ornaments. Canvas – 15" H x 12" W. Framed – 21" H x 17 5/8" W. Late 19th century. Provenance: the collection of Mr. and Mrs. H.R. Slaymaker, Nashville, Tennessee. CONDITION: Relined with some darkening to varnish layer and craquelure throughout; blacklight reveals 1" spot of inpainting lower right corner, five small spots inpainting upper right quadrant.
