F. or T. C. Saunders, American school oil on canvas genre painting titled “The Healing Art” depicting two young girls pulling a thorn from a young boy’s foot. Titlted lower center and signed lower right, “F. C. Saunders,” and dated 1874. Housed in an elaborate gilt, carved, and gesso wood frame. Sight: 36 in. H x 26 1/2 in. W. Framed: 46 in. H x 36 1/2 in. W.
PROVENANCE: Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts Foundation.
CONDITION: Painting has been relined, with abrasions to the upper and lower margins. Possible minor retouching especially to figure at right, largest area to hem of sleeve, 1 1/2 in. L. Frame with minor scattered losses.
