Southern Chippendale Pembroke dropleaf table, attrib. Petersburg, Virginia. Mahogany with yellow pine secondary wood, rectangular top with two hinged leaves over a single scratchbeaded and finely dovetailed drawer with Chippendale brass bail pull and plate, four legs with chamfered corners terminating in carved square, flared or “tassel” feet. Drawer side is inscribed with a compass rose in circle. 26 5/8″H x 19 1/2″ wide (30 1/2″ with leaves extended) x 22 3/4″ deep. 1775-1785. CONDITION: 1/2″ patch to stile near right side of drawer; top has a 2″ patch and a 1/2″ patch; 3″ patch repairs in area of front hinges on both sides, one patch on molded table edge (right) and the other on leaf (left); drawer bottom has three boards, one of which appears to be an old replacement; scattered scratches and abrasions.
