French school oil on canvas painting depicting a young woman and her tutor sitting in a decorated interior scene having a lesson. The young woman holds a quill in one hand while contemplating as the tutor reads and gestures toward her. They sit at a table in front of a large window with a young man playing the flute and village architecture visible in the background. Unsigned. Housed in a giltwood Rococo-style frame. 17 1/2" H x 13 1/2" W. Framed: 23 1/2" H x 19 1/4" W. Note: This work was purchased by the consigner from a gallery in Alexandria, Virginia. Late 19th century.
CONDITION: Some light-scattered areas of retouching are visible under UV light inspection. Frame with some wear to gilt.
