After Antoine Waldorp (Netherlands, 1803-1866) oil on canvas painting depicting a canal with various boats docked alongside a bridge and cottage, including one containing a family in the foreground. Vertical building facades and a church steeple visible are in the background beneath a cloudy sky. Unsigned. Inscribed "Antoine Waldorp (1803-1866) Sted. Museum Amsterdam", for the Stedelijk Museum, en verso to stretcher. Additional Dutch inscription, en verso of inner frame. Housed in a stacked, molded giltwood frame with foliate scrolling. Sight: 14 1/4" H x 21 1/2" W. Framed: 21" H x 32 1/2" W. Early 20th century. Note: This painting is likely a copy of a work done by Waldrop titled "Boote Im Stadthafen" or "Boats in the City Harbor" sold at Auktionshaus Satow, Satow, Germany in 2014. It may have been exhibited in the Stedelijk Museum, and the inscription en verso of the stretcher is likely a reference to where the original work was displayed, viewed, and copied by the artist of this work.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Edward Laudermilk, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Overall very good condition with minor surface grime. Frame with area of restoration measuring 19 1/2" x 3/8".
