Guillermo Gomez Mayorga (Mexico, 1887-1962) oil on canvas landscape painting with subtle impasto titled "Mira-Flores MEX" depicting the Mexican village and its towering cathedral in the midground of a vast landscape with a cowherd and his cattle traversing the plains in the foreground and the snowcapped Sierra Laguna mountains rising in the background. Titled and signed "G.G. Mayorga" lower right. Housed in a contemporary giltwood frame with white-washed accent. Sight: 11 1/2" H x 17 1/8" W. Framed: 15 3/8" H x 19 7/8" W. Artist biography: Guillermo Gomez Mayorga is best known for his marine landscapes, most notably those of the open ocean. He was able to capture the majesty of Mexican beaches and terrain due to his knowledge of topography, his love of nature, and the lessons he took from many other avant-garde artists of his time. (adapted from AMERLINCK, Rodrigo, "Guillermo Gomez Mayorga", Mexico, Fernandez Cueto Editores, p. 101 & 107)
