Jules Worms (France/Spain, 1834-1924) oil on canvas genre painting depicting a man seated on a donkey, serenading a woman standing in a balcony overhead. Signed "J Worms" lower right. Stamp for Tasset & Lhote, Paris en verso of canvas and stretcher. Artist name engraved on nameplate lower center of frame. Housed in an ornate giltwood frame with gadrooning and foliate decoration. Sight: 14" H x 10 1/2" W. Framed: 24 1/2" H x 21" W. Note: This work was purchased from Rachel Davis Fine Art, Cleveland, OH in 2018, original receipt available to winning bidder. Receipt for restoration also available to winning bidder.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Edward Laudermilk, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Painting has been strip lined at edges. Small area of abrasion near signature, very slight retouching to upper edge visible under UV light inspection. Frame has been professionally restored, some gilt loss to inner frame.
