Henry Mosler (New York/Ohio/France, 1841-1920) oil on canvas painting depicting a long-haired middle-aged man in a worn hat and coat using a hot coal to light a pipe while gazing directly at the viewer. Signed and dated "Henry Moser 1888." upper left. Housed in a molded giltwood frame with foliate forms and swags. Sight: 11 1/2" H x 9 1/2" W. Framed: 17 1/2" H x 15 1/2" W.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Edward Laudermilk, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Previously cleaned and revarnished, possibly while still in the frame. Scattered minor wear to edges of canvas. Possibly retouched to scattered areas, including finger and eye.
