Jean-Jacques Gaudel (France/Alabama, b. 1946) oil on paper painting depicting an oversized classical bust resting on the floor of a room. Contrasting light and shadow from a nearby window provide depth and dimension to the scene. Signed lower left “J.J. Gaudel” and dated August, 1987. Floated under glass on a white mat in an ebonized frame with gilt sight edge. Sight: 29 in H x 41 1/2 in W. Frame: 42 in H x 54 in W. Biography: Jean-Jacques Gaudel trained as a mechanical engineer at the College Bonaparte in Autun and the Institut National des Sciences Appliquees in Lyon. He came to America on a photographic safari in 1972, married, and settled in Birmingham, Alabama. Gaudel began painting in the late 1970s and has worked full time as an artist since 1984, after winning art exhibition prizes and gaining gallery representation. He started sculpting in 1988 and currently works mainly with digital media.
PROVENANCE: A Nashville, Tennessee estate.
CONDITION: Painting appears to be in excellent condition. Not examined out of frame.
