1st item: Colonial-style quilt with Basket and Pink Flowers design, in solid cotton colors of pink, green, and gold. Hand-pieced and appliqued, and hand-quilted throughout with white cotton thread, thin cotton batting. The edging is a separate applied binding applied by hand, 67 in. x 84 in. Southern, Circa 1930s. 2nd item: Elaborate basket design cotton quilt consisting of 13 blocks and colors of pink, yellow, and green. Hand-pieced, hand-quilted in an elaborate feathered wreath design, and appliqued. The binding is hand-sewn, the batting is a lightweight cotton, and the backing is links of white-cotton sewn by machine. 74 in. x 95 in. Southern, Circa 1930s.
PROVENANCE: The estate of John Z. C. Thomas, Knoxville, TN.
CONDITION: 1st item: Minor spots on the backing, 1 ft of discoloration along the bottom transfers to the back. 2nd item: Unwashed, some minor staining, and some discoloration along the fold.
