1st item: Large Chinese carved and dyed hardstone censer or vase, featuring a square baluster urn with incised chariot designs and double Qilong water dragon ring handles, supported on a base of two figural conjoined dragons, and topped by a cover with dragon finial. 12 1/4" H x 8 1/3" W. 2nd item: Carved agate brush washer, the rim encircled by a figural carved Qilong water dragon. 7" x 5 1/4". Both items 20th century.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Thelma Schlicher, by descent from the estate of U.S. Ambassador Ronald Schlicher, Brentwood, TN. Note: Tennessee native Ron Schlicher entered the foreign service in 1982, working primarily in the Middle East. He returned to TN after retiring in 2011. Among his many diplomatic roles, he served as Ambassador to Cyprus, U.S. Principal Deputy Assistant Coordinator of Counterterrorism, and was director of the Iraq Task Force during the 2003 war with Iraq.
CONDITION: Censer/vase has a tiny chip to lid at corner; and wear and scratching to underside. Brush washer in very good condition.
