Two (2) Joseph Wopfner (Austria, 1843-1927) signed pencil drawings of maritime subjects. 1st item: Drawing depicting three men in a rowboat on lake. The men at bow and stern row while the central figure possibly attends to a fishing net. Set on the Bavarian Sea or Chiemsee, before a distant mountain range. Signed in pen, lower right. Housed in a molded gilt frame with black spatter and light purple mat with dark purple reveal and gold French line. Sight: 3 7/8" H x 5 7/8" W. Framed: 10 7/8" H x 12 7/8" W. 2nd item: Drawing depicting six men in a boat unloading a catch on the shore or preparing to depart. A woman stands to their left before an outgrowth of vegetation and a second boat is visible in the distance. Signed in pen, lower right. Sight: 6" W x 3 3/4" H. Frame: 13 1/4" W x 11" H.
PROVENANCE: The Collection of Ilse Rieden, Gate City, Virginia. Descended in the family from her grandfather, the artist Josef Wopfner, who gifted this work to a relative.
CONDITION: Condition is excellent, with minimal toning to paper. 2nd drawing has faint fading to signature. 1st drawing's frame has scratches with gilt loss to right and upper sides, not visible frontally.
