Lee Jackson (American, 1909-2002) oil on board painting of a dancer with streamers flowing from a wreath of flowers on her hair. Signed “Jackson” lower right. Molded giltwood frame with linen mat. Sight: 7 1/4 in H x 6 in W. Frame: 14 in H x 13 in W. Biography: Lee Jackson studied at the Art Students League and independently with John Sloan and George Luks and later taught at City College of New York. He had a fascination with color and movement and is known for genre and figure paintings, especially scenes of dancers. Works by Jackson have been exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Whitney Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art (“American Painting Today at 1950”), and the 140th Annual National Academy of Design (Thomas B. Clarke Prize).
PROVENANCE: The estate of Billie Ann Smith, Nashville, TN.
CONDITION: Painting in excellent condition. Minor wear to frame, overall very good condition.
