Theodore Bernard Dahl (Denmark, 1886-1971) oil on canvas landscape painting depicting a cottage with a pale blue door nestled amid thick bushes and low trees with sunlit hay bails at the right beside a path shaded by a large tree. A dirt road bordered by wildflowers stretches into the foreground with a low fence, low rolling hills, and a body of water in the background beneath a cloudy blue sky. Signed and dated lower right "Th. B. Dahl 24". Illegible pencil inscription along with stamped and written numbers, en verso. Housed in a molded giltwood frame. Sight: 17" H x 22 1/4" W. Frame: 23 1/8" H x 28 1/2" W.
PROVENANCE: The estate of Dr. Thomas Bechtel, Memphis, TN.
CONDITION: Overall surface grime with minor abrasion to paint layer at right and upper edges. Frame having scattered losses to gilt, largest measuring 1 3/8" H x 1/4" W.
