Attributed to Jean Francois LeGillon (France/Belgium, 1739-1797) oil on board pastoral painting depicting a shepherdess seated on a knoll overlooking her livestock, including a goat, sheep, and two cows, at a shallow watering hole with additional cattle in a distant field below a densely clouded sky in the background. Inscription or possible signature "Jean F. Le Gillon", en verso. Housed in a period Rococo giltwood frame with acanthus and foliate flourish corners having a placard with artist, dates, and possible title "Resting the Livestock" affixed to lower sight edge. Sight: 14" H x 17" W. Framed: 20 3/4" H x 24" W.
CONDITION: Craquelure throughout. Warping to board. Frame with minute scattered losses to gesso, largest measuring 1/4" x 1/4".
