"Surveyed by the direction of Capt. O.M. Poe Chf Engr, Dept. of the Ohio during Dec, Jan. & Feb 1863-64. Published by the authority of the Hon. Secretary of War in the Office of the Chief Engineers, U.S. Army." At bottom of lower left margin is printed "The Graphic Co. Proto-Lith. 39&41 Park Place, N.Y." Image is 26" H x 30" W on sheet 30" H x 40" W. Rare. Ref. Stephenson # 427. Note: In the 1860s and 1870s, the War Department issued lithographed maps made from hand drawn maps its engineers had drawn during the war. These relatively rare maps were loose sheets of various sizes, not part of atlases or books, although some of them were similar to the maps issued in official reports. Many of them served as the basis for the maps in the official Civil War Atlas published in the 1890s. Condition: Some chipping/ losses in the lower left margin not affecting the image.
