French School sanguine or red chalk drawing on laid paper depicting three figures seated on the ground, one with lute behind him, and a fourth figure standing and reading from a sheet of paper with his back to the viewer. Unsigned. "Manet" printed stamped in black uppercase letters lower left. Housed under glass in a beige mat in a narrow giltwood frame. Sight: 7 1/2" H x 9 1/2" W. Frame: 13 1/4" H x 20" W. 18th century.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of F. Hamilton Hazlehurst, longtime chair of the Vanderbilt University Art Department.
CONDITION: Two spots of foxing, right side of image, center, and general toning. Not examined out of frame.
