James Abbott McNeill Whistler (born MA, active England/France, 1834-1903) etching and drypoint entitled "Annie, Seated," state three of three (Glasgow). Print depicts a young girl identified by inscription in the plate, lower center, as "Annie," seated with head turned downwards in a pensive manner and hands folded in lap. With Whistler's atmospheric plate tone throughout. Signed "Whistler" in plate, lower left. Housed in a scrolled gilt wood frame with cream mat and dark brown bevel. 1858-1859. Refs: Glasgow, 32 iii/iii; Kennedy, 30 ii/ii. Provenance: Vincent Price Collection, Sears, Roebuck & Co., with sticker and informational label on reverse. Plate: 5" H x 3 3/4" W. Sight: 5 1/2" H x 4 1/4" W. Frame: 20 1/4" H x 15 1/8" W. Note: Sitter Annie Harriet Haden (1848-1937) was the model for three Whistler etchings and two paintings.
CONDITION: Substantial foxing throughout, primarily in left and upper margins. Not examined outside of frame.
