Three (3) Gio Pomodoro (Italy, 1930-2002) color aquatint etchings in the style of blueprints or technical illustrations, possibly relating to real or imagined sculptures or installation artworks that consist primarily of stone. 1st item: Etching with images of a figure and an arrangement of large stones. Inscribed “II Stato Colore” in pencil plus blindstamp to lower left. Floated under acrylic in a wooden frame with cream mat. Sheet: 22 in. H x 39 3/4 in. W. Framed: 31 2/4 in. H x 41 1/4 in. W. 2nd item: Etching with images of wood and stone constructions. Text at upper center reads “FRAMMENTO URBANO” (urban fragment). Signed and numbered VI/XX in pencil, lower margin. Floated under plexiglass in a wooden frame with textured cream mat. Sheet: 27 1/4 in H x 19 1/4 in W. Frame: 36 in H x 27 1/2 in W. 3rd item: Etching with two vignettes, one in purple and one primarily in black ink, that each describe sculptural arrangements of stones. Signed in pencil lower right and numbered VII/XX plus blindstamp to lower left. With inventory number inscribed in en verso. Unframed. Sheet: 27 1/2 in. H x 19 5/8 in. W. Biographical Note: Born near Urbino in 1930, Gio Pomodoro was a sculptor, printmaker, jewelry designer, and stage designer. In 1954 his family including his brother, the sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro, moved to Milan where the brothers joined the city’s avant-garde art community. He is best known for his abstract sculpture, which he produced in both smaller scale and in the form of monumental public artworks.
