Large European 19th-century oil on canvas portrait after the painting by the Italian Baroque painter Caravaggio titled "The Lute Player". Depicts a seated figure playing a lute in front of a tabletop display of a violin, bow, sheet music, fruit and a large floral arrangement. Inscribed lower left "Caravaggio" and signed lower right "E. de Reutern". Housed in a foliate carved gilt wood frame. Sight: 37" H x 46 1/2" W, Framed: 46" H x 56" W.
PROVENANCE: A Knoxville, Tennessee collection.
CONDITION: Overall light craquelure. Rippling to upper margin of canvas. Top left quadrant with multiple canvas repairs, visible patch en verso.
