English High Chest signed by cabinetmaker John Wilson, Pinckney (Somerset, England), 1840. Mahogany with deal or camphor wood secondary. Mahogany veneer banding along sides and front of top. Greek key inlay above drawer fronts, two half drawers over four long drawers, all with cock beading, supported by bracket feet. Signed in graphite “John Wilson, Cabinetmaker, Pickney” on underside of right top half drawer. Refinished surface. Brasses replaced. 49″ H x 40-1/2″ W x 18-1/2″ D. English, second quarter 19th century. CONDITION: Small loss of veneer (1″ x 3/4″) right back corner on top. Refinished surface to chest. Hardware replaced. All drawer bottoms have cracks. 2nd drawer from bottom has warped backboard. Insect damage on bottom drawer.
