Attributed to Efim Efimovich Volkov (Russian, 1844-1920), Russian Impressionist oil on canvas painting depicting a clearing in a wooded landscape surrounded by birch trees and a large rock. Signed in Cyrillic lower left. Shell and scroll molded giltwood and composition frame. Sight – 12 1/2" H x 19 1/2" W. Framed – 20 1/2" H x 27 1/2" W. Volkov (Alternate spelling: Yekin Volkov ) was known for his landscape paintings. He studied at the Imperial Academy of Fine Arts, became a full member of the Academy in 1895 and was eventually named an Academician. He was also a member of the Association of Travelling Art Exhibitions. Condition: Canvas appears to have been laid down on board, with flaking and 1" tear to far right edge at frame, 2 1/2" crease or repaired tear at top left edge. Frame regilded with small losses to rabbet edge, exterior corners and edges, separations at lower miter joints.
