Mahogany recamier or daybed. Curved back with exposed top rail terminating in a carved rosette, curved arms at each end carved as cornucopias with fruit, joined by a paneled frieze, with front knees carved as eagle heads and hairy paw feet. Partially upholstered back and sides, fully upholstered seat with salmon and gold upholstery. 30 1/2" H x 64" W x 23 1/4" D. American, possibly New York, circa 1820. Provenance: estate of A. Welling LaGrone Jr., Nashville, Tenn. Condition: Minor abrasions, chips, and shrinkage. Split to R front foot, repairs to L front foot and eagle heads.
