Five (5) Jane Austen novels, including one (1) PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, one (1) SENSE AND SENSIBILITY, one (1) MANSFIELD PARK, one (1) EMMA, and one (1) NORTHANGER ABBEY and PERSUASION, published by George Routledge and Sons, Limited, London, Manchester, and New York, printed by Woodfall and Kinder, London, ca. 1890-92. Hardcover 12mos, 2,098 total top gilt edged pages, four with frontispieces, uniformly rebound in three-quarter navy blue leather with marbled-paper sides, gilt lettering to spines, five raised hubs, marbled endpapers. Approximately 7 5/8" H x 5 1/2" W x 1 1/9" D.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Raymond White, Nashville, Tennessee.
CONDITION: Covers in overall good condition with scuffs, normal shelf wear, minor losses to edges of leather and paper, largest 3/4", corners bumped. Majority of pages in overall good condition with light toning, first few and last pages, including frontispieces, with toning/acid burn, pencil inscriptions from previous owners including two with inscriptions dated "1895." All volumes with "Estes & Lauriat, Boston" retailer stamps to front endpapers, visible top left en verso. Does not include advertisements. NORTHANGER ABBEY and PERSUASION volume does not include frontispiece. Three volumes with intact red grosgrain ribbon bookmarks. Two volumes with deckled edges.
