1st item: French parquetry mixed woods inlaid tiered table or etagere, having three rectangular tiers with geometric inlaid designs, ebonized edges and brass trim, with brass finials to top tier corners, all raised on ebonized turned supports and splayed legs. 31 1/2" H x 16" W x 12" D. Circa 1860. 2nd item: English brass mounted mahogany lap desk with fitted compartments and a brown blaze covered writing surface, fitted with a custom mahogany stand. 24 3/4" H x 19 7/8" W x 10 3/4" D. Mid 19th century desk; stand 20th century.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of Margaret Harold Roberts, Lookout Mountain, Georgia.
CONDITION: 1st item: Overall good condition with some wood shrinkage causing separation to edges of tiers and brass trim, slight warpage to tiers, and some scattered wear and losses. May have originally had a top gallery. 2nd item: Desk and stand in overall good condition, scattered general wear and abrasions. Interior of desk with some losses to writing surface and letter holding string, one compartment divider loose.
