Five (5) Maryland carved and painted duck decoys. 1st – 4th items: Four (4) carved and painted decoys attributed to Samuel Barnes (1857-1926, Havre de Grace, Maryland), including 3 canvasback drakes and 1 hen retaining the original paint. One canvasback branded RNS and JWS on the base. 5th item: One (1) canvasback hen attributed to Robert McGaw (Harve de Grace, MD, 1879-1958) hen branded H on the base. Ranging in size from 7 1/2″ H x 14″ L to 7″ H x 15 3/4″ L. All 1st half 20th century.
PROVENANCE: Private Knoxville, Tennessee collection.
CONDITION: All decoys with scattered wear and losses. 1 Barnes canvasback decoy with patch and shaved base, additionally without weight. Another Barnes canvasback has a repaired neck and re-paint. Hen retains the original paint. 5th item: Head is a replacement, possibly Will Heverin.
