Three (3) European seals, including figural forms. 1st item: Seal with carved topper depicting the bust of a woman with upswept hair, pink hardstone body, and brass plated base incised with heraldry crest having squirrel, dogs, and banner with NIL SINE DEO (Nothing without God) motto. 4 3/4" H x 1 5/8" W x 1" D. 19th century. 2nd item: Carved seal depicting the head of a smiling man with tears or facial hair, split collar, and a hat with a tassel; red-painted body ending in cross-hatched inscribed seal. 3 3/8" H x 7/8" dia. Late 18th/early 19th century. 3rd item: Octagonal enamel seal impression with stamped heraldry crest depicting a squirrel, dogs, and banner with NIL SINE DEO motto. 1 3/8" H x 1 3/8" W. 19th century.
PROVENANCE: The Estate of F. Hamilton Hazlehurst, longtime chair of the Vanderbilt University Art Department.
CONDITION: 1st item: Overall very good condition with minor surface scratches to brass plating and minute surface wear to topper. 2nd item: Surface grime and wear commensurate with age, wear to paint, and loss measuring 1 1/8" L. 3rd item: Hairline crack across surface measuring 1 3/8" L, glue residue, en verso.
