Federal giltwood convex girandole mirror, the pediment with a carved eagle with ball and chain in beak atop a stack of stones; the circular mirror with an ebonized rabbet edge and molding with applied balls or spheres, flanked by two curved candlearms; the base with foliate ornamentation. 30 1/2" G x 21" W (incl. candlearms). American or English, early to mid 19th century. Provenance: estate of A. Welling LaGrone Jr., Nashville, Tenn. Condition: Fine gilding restoration to 80% of mirror, some of the spheres are a little loose, cracking to black rabbet edge, and minor loss of silvering to original mirror.
