Large European full length oil on canvas portrait after the original "Self-Portrait with her Daughter" painting by Elisabeth Louise Vigee-Lebrun (France/Europe, 1755 – 1842). The mother is depicted wearing Classical attire including a white chiton with a red scarf in her hair and about her waist and green drape on her legs while embracing her daughter, who wears a blue Classical style dress. Housed in a heavily carved gilt wood frame having laurel leaf with berry, leaf and dart and ribbed decoration. Sight: 46 3/4" H x 35" W. Framed: 58 5/8" H x 49" W. 19th century.
CONDITION: Overall craquelure, with some rippling noted to upper right quadrant of canvas. Old patch repair evident en verso. Areas of inpainting to upper left and lower right corners and to below the mother's left arm and daughter's hair. Please refer to UV photos. Minor scattered wear and abrasions to the frame.
