Newly discovered oil on canvas fruit still life by Charles Baum (American, 1812-1877), signed “Charles Baum” lower left-center. Depicting an overflowing bowl of fruit including grapes, pears, peaches, and raspberries. Canvas shows no evidence of inpainting, original frame. Condition – old surface scratch near center of painting, crackelure of paint surface around edges of canvas. 25″ x 30″ painting, 32″ x 38″ frame. Charles Baum immigrated to the United States from Rhineland, Germany. Baum was strongly influenced by fellow Rhineland native, Severin Roesen.
