Online Bidding Tips - Bid to Win
Lots are auctioned at a rapid pace of 90-100 lots per hour. Bidding can close especially fast on lots with limited activity, particularly when the bids are coming primarily from online marketplaces such as LiveAuctioneers and Bidsquare. Be prepared to bid as soon as the bidding opens, and bid promptly and decisively.
The time it takes for bids and auction updates to transmit between your device and our auction floor is known as internet latency. In some cases, there may be a brief delay before your bid registers or before you receive the final call notice. During that delay, the auctioneer may close the bidding in real time, and your bid may not be accepted.
Live bidding can be done over standard Wi-Fi, but a computer or laptop with a hardwired (Ethernet) connection is more reliable and typically experiences less latency. We discourage live bidding using a mobile phone’s cellular connection (LTE), as it is the least reliable option.
Submitting a maximum absentee bid in advance – and then watching live to bid higher if needed – is an effective strategy. Absentee bids at Case are executed competitively; we do not automatically advance bidding to your maximum.
For example, if your maximum bid is $3,000 and the next highest bidder stops at $2,000, you will win the lot at one bidding increment above $2000 (e.g., $2100).
Attending the auction in person is the best way to ensure your most competitive bid is received. You may also register for a telephone bid, where a member of our staff bids on your behalf while connected with you by phone. Additionally, you may submit an absentee bid in advance directly with Case. For details about these alternative bidding options, please visit our Bidding Details page.
